Prerequisites

You are logged on to the database as database system administrator or as a DBM operator with server authorization for accessing database files.

Procedure

Displaying Database Files
  1. In the explorer, expand the folders of the logged-on database system administrator or DBM operator.

  2. Open the Diagnosis Files folder.

    The most important database configuration and log files are listed.

  3. To display the content and attributes of a file, choose Open in the context menu of the file.

    Note that you cannot display binary files directly. You can only save them and then open them using a suitable external editor.

Saving the Database Messages Log File (Kernel Log File) to a Local Text File
  1. Display the Database Messages file.

    This is the most important database log files, which contains all database kernel messages (error messages, warnings, and information). The beginning of the file contains information about the software version, important paths and the current values of the database parameters.

    To change the local user folder, choose   Window   Preferences   Database Studio   Repository   and enter the new location.

Displaying the Database Studio Log File

To display the content of the current Database Studio log file, choose   Window   Show View   Event Log Viewer  .

Database Studio log file

The system overwrites this log file each time Database Studio is started and saves the old log file as dbstudio.log.bak.
