The Database Analyzer user menu of the DBA Cockpit contains, among other things, a bottleneck analysis. You can display the logs of the Database Analyzer. You can stop and start the Database Analyzer, for example, to change the settings for the collection interval. You can also manage the performance data.

Procedure

Open the DBA Cockpit (transaction DBACOCKPIT) and select   Performance   Database Analyzer   Bottlenecks  .

Result

You see the results of today's Database Analyzer bottleneck analysis (log DBAN.prt), if it exists. All entries in the Database Analyzer log (warnings and information) of today's first measuring point - and others, where applicable - are opened immediately for viewing. You can open information on the day's other measuring points for viewing by expanding the desired measuring time.

There are different display options for opening the Database Analyzer log for a day of your choice:

  • Choose Expand All Measuring Times to open the entire Database Analyzer log of the selected day for viewing, along with the entries containing warnings and information of each measuring time.

  • Choose Display a Day's Measuring Times to obtain a list of all measuring times of the selected day. The entries in the Database Analyzer log (warnings and information) of the day's first measuring point - and others, where applicable - are opened immediately for viewing. You can open information on the other measuring points for viewing by expanding the desired measuring time.

  • Select the desired measuring times of a certain day and choose Expand Selected Measuring Times to view the Database Analyzer information for the selected measuring times along with the warning and information entries.

You can restrict the measuring point display to measuring points with high-priority warnings or measuring points with any warnings. To do this, select the option Warnings with High Priority or Warnings in the Filter for Measuring Times area.

Choose Collapse All when you wish to close the display of all detailed information again.

If you would like to view the monitor class logs (analysis areas) from the Database Analyzer and the collected performance data (aggregated data), switch to Expert Analysis using   Goto   Expert Analysis  .

Changing the Collection Interval

If you need to change the collection interval for performance data, proceed as follows:

  1. In the Bottleneck Analysis, choose   Bottleneck Analysis   DB Analyzer   Stop Analysis  .

  2. Choose   Bottleneck Analysis   DB Analyzer   Start Analysis  .

  3. Specify a collection interval for the performance data.

Managing Performance Data

Choose   Goto   Managing Performance Data   in the Bottleneck Analysis. You can execute any administration activities automatically or manually:

  • Transferring the log files from the Database Analyzer to the database

  • Deleting the log files from the Database Analyzer

  • Collecting (aggregating) performance data from the Database Analyzer

Displaying Logs

To view more log files from the Database Analyzer proceed as follows:

In the Bottleneck Analysis, choose   Goto   Self-Monitoring   <DBAN.err | DBAN.inf | DBAN.pid | DBAN.sid>

Starting the Database Analyzer Explicitly

If necessary, you can start the Database Analyzer explicitly in the following ways:

  1. In the Bottleneck Analysis, choose   Bottleneck Analysis   DB Analyzer   Start Analysis  .

  2. Specify a collection interval for the performance data.

Activating DB Time Measurement

In the Task Manager, you can activate or deactivate the internal time measurement for database activities.

You can use this function to, for example, calculate the average response times for an SQL command.

  1. Choose   Edit   Activate DB Time Measurement  .

  2. Perform the desired time measurements.

  3. Choose   Edit   Deactivate DB Time Measurement  .

Evaluation of measurement data can be done via the analysis of bottlenecks using the Database Analyzer.
