Configure the SAP MaxDB software for the Backint for Oracle Connection. This enables you to connect the SAP MaxDB database tools for backing up, restoring, importing, or exporting data to the Backint for Oracle interface of a third-party backup tool.

Prerequisites

  • Your third-party backup tool has a Backint for Oracle interface.

  • The version of your SAP MaxDB database system is 7.5 or higher.

    Note Note

If your SAP MaxDB version is lower than 7.5, refer to the previous version of this documentation at http://maxdb.sap.com/doc/7_6/43/e0f23ab6b4317de10000000a11402f/frameset.htm

    End of the note.
  • Your Backint for Oracle program is able to save any files in a file system, even if you do not have an Oracle database system installed on your computer.

Procedure

To connect SAP MaxDB to the Backint for Oracle interface, perform the following steps:

  1. Configure the Backint for Oracle interface of the third-party backup tool in accordance with the vendor's instructions.

If you have to create a configuration file here, you have to specify the file name in the parameter file of the adapter program (see step 2).

  2. Create the parameter file for the SAP MaxDB adapter program

This file connects the SAP MaxDB adapter program with a third-party backup tool. If necessary, enter the name of the configuration file for the third-party backup tool in this file as well (see step 1).

    Example

  3. Create the configuration file for Backint for SAP MaxDB (case 1)

This file connects Database Manager to the SAP MaxDB adapter program. Enter the name of the parameter file for the SAP MaxDB adapter program in this file also (see step 1).

    Example

  4. Export the environment variables for the backup tool if you are required to do so by the third-party backup tool vendor.

  5. Set the environment variable BSI_ENV for the Database Manager program.

  6. If necessary, set the tool-independent environment variables for Database Manager.
