SAP MaxDB supports the use of the NetWorker backup tool (from Legato) for backing up, restoring, importing, and exporting data. Before you can use the NetWorker backup tool you must configure the SAP MaxDB software accordingly.

Prerequisites

  • The version of your SAP MaxDB database system is 7.5 or higher.

  • If you want to use NetWorker on Unix to create a database backup on one computer and to restore this backup in a second database on a second computer, both the databases must be run by operating system users with the same user ID. Otherwise NetWorker fails and consequently, MaxDB cannot restore the backup in the second database on the second computer.

Procedure

  1. Set the environment variables NSR_ENV

  2. Create the configuration file for NetWorker

  3. If necessary, set the tool-independent environment variables for Database Manager.
