You use this DBM command when you create a database instance. It enables you to create a new database instance that has the same parameter values as an existing database instance.
To do this, you need a complete backup of the existing database instance. You import the parameter file from this backup to the new database instance.
The copy of the parameter file is then stored in the <dependent_path> under the name of the current database instance.
Note
If you use this command when creating a database copy or a standby instance, you should always check whether security reasons make it necessary to create these database instances on a different database computer than the original instance. If you do create the new instance on the same computer as the original instance, you must change the imported parameter values for the run directory and the diagnosis history and the paths for the data and log volumes as otherwise collisions would take place.
