The database catalog of a database contains the metadata for all database objects. The database catalog is made up of the following sections:

  • Information about the installation of the database system

  • Metadata about users and user groups

  • Metadata about database objects

    This includes, among other things, metadata for base tables and view tables.

A user can only access the metadata of another user or user group if this user has been granted the relevant privileges.
