This tutorial describes selected tasks for the administration of databases using Database Manager CLI with the Microsoft Windows operating system.
All examples are based on the demo database, which was designed and configured for practice and testing purposes. Do not use the demo database in a production system.
The Database Manager CLI documentation describes the DBM options, DBM commands, and their prerequisites. By contrast, the focus of this tutorial is on the precise sequence of DBM commands to, for example, create a database, change a database parameter, or execute a backup.
The tutorial is a collection of examples for typical administration tasks.
The examples are structured as follows:
Section |
Description |
---|---|
Use |
General overview of the steps necessary to perform the action |
Scenario |
Hypothetical situation for the example |
Procedure |
Precise input and output texts, if necessary with comments |
Result |
Brief summary of the state of the database following the executed action, with notes on what further actions could be now executed |
For detailed information about the prerequisites for executing individual DBM commands, see the command descriptions in the Database Manager CLI documentation. The overview of all commands makes it easy to find specific DBM commands.
This documentation does not claim to be exhaustive. It is, however, constantly being enhanced to address the questions and problems brought to our attention, in particular through the MaxDB/liveCache forum on the SAP Developer Network under https://www.sdn.sap.com/irj/sdn/maxdb.
If you have a question about an administration task not described here, you can search the threads for relevant information.
This documentation was not conceived to be the sole guide for a database administrator.
To use this tutorial, you need to be familiar with the database system, its components, and the Database Manager CLI documentation.
