A database instance can be in the following operational states:
Operational State |
Description |
ONLINE |
The database instance is ready. Database users with the corresponding authorizations can log on and execute SQL statements. Database administrators execute the majority of administration tasks in this operational state. |
STANDBY |
For standby instances in hot standby systems only. You cannot connect to a standby instance. They are constantly in a restart state. |
ADMIN |
The database instance is only available for administration tasks. |
OFFLINE |
The database instance is not running. |
When the database instance is transferred from one operational state to another, it may be temporarily in an intermediate state.
To monitor or change the operational state of the database instance, use the Database Manager, or, in SAP systems, the Database Assistant of the CCMS.
