Procedure documentationActivating or Deactivating the Automatic Extension of the Data Area Locate this document in the navigation structure

The data of a database is permanently stored in the data volumes (data area). If the data area of a database is full, the database stops working.

If you have activated the automatic extension of the data area for your database, the system adds a new data volume as soon as the configured fill level of the data area is reached.

Note Note

You can also add data volumes manually.

End of the note.

Prerequisites

  • You are logged on to the database as the database system administrator or as a DBM operator with server authorization for accessing database parameters or utility sessions.

    More information: Glossary, Server Permission

  • The maximum number of data volumes that you configured with database parameter MaxDataVolumes has not been reached yet.

A separate event task is required for this function. For this reason, make sure that the FloatingServiceTasks and PreservedEventTasks database parameters are large enough.

  • If you activate the automatic extension of the data area function, the last data volume that you added must be of type FILE.
