You can specify the following options when using the SDBINST program to install or update database software:

Option

Description

-h | -help

Displays the list of possible options and their descriptions

-b | -batch

Executes SDBINST in the background.

If you specify this option, the installation program terminates with an error if any information is missing.

If you do not specify this option, the program stops if any information is missing, and prompts you to act.

-v | -version

Displays the version number of the SDBINST program

-l | -list

Displays all installable software components

-package <package_list>

<package_list> :: = <package> | <package>,<package>,....

List of software components to be installed

-i <installation_name>

Name of the new installation

-path <installation_path>

Installation path *

-global_prog <path>

Global programs path

-global_data <path

Global data path

-private_datapath <path>

Private data path *

-global_owner <user_name>

Special oparating system user, owner of the software,

to be specified for the very first installation on a computer,

cannot be changed later on

If you do not specify this value, the system default value sdb is used by the system.

-global_group <group_name>

Special operating system user group,

to be specified for the very first installation on a computer,

cannot be changed later on

If you do not specify this value, the system default value sdba is used by the system.

-network_port <number>

X server port number

-description <installation_description>

Description of the new installation

-check_files

Checks the installed software

Only if errors are found, the system overwrites the relevant software to repair the component.

-no_debug_packages

When specified on Windows:

Suppresses the installation of additional analysis software (symbol files .pdb)

On Unix this option has no effect.

-force_extract

Processes running during the upgrade are ignored by the system.

-update_global

Forces the installation program to update the global database software

If you do not specify this option, new global software is installed only if this is envisaged by the new software (for example: software patch)

-kill_running_processes

Processes running during the upgrade are stopped by the system

If you do not specify this option, the update terminates with an error mesaage if there are still running processes.

*You must place any path that contains blanks in double quotation marks.
