The SAP liveCache technology is an object-based enhancement of the SAP MaxDB database system and was developed to manage complex objects. Unlike SAP MaxDB, an optimally configured SAP liveCache database holds all the data that the database system needs to access in the working memory. It combines the advantages of main memory-based data retention with a complete operating concept, including backup and recovery. The application functions are provided by database procedures (liveCache Applications), which make accessing application data extremely fast.

The SAP liveCache technology significantly increases the speed of the algorithmically complex, data- and runtime-intensive functions of various SAP applications, especially within SAP Supply Chain Management.
