You can back up data and log entries to files (backup files). The name of backup files consists of a file name (specified in the backup template) and a sequential number assigned by the database system (for example, logfile.001).

During a log backup to a file, the system backs up each log segment of the log area to a separate backup file.

We recommend that you regularly archive backup files.
