Selection of the Upgrade Strategy 

Procedure

Select an upgrade strategy that is appropriate for the database instance type, and the source and target versions of the database software. Proceed as described for your chosen upgrade strategy.

If your database instance fulfills the necessary prerequisites, we recommend that you use the program SDBUPD, since an upgrade with this program removes the need for most of the user interaction, and is quicker and safer.

Upgrade Strategies for OLTP Database Instances

	Target Version 7.6.x
Source Version from 7.3.00 Build 025	In-Place Migration with SDBUPD or* In-Place Migration with SDBINST The target version must be equal to/greater than 7.6.00 build 12.
Source Version 7.4.03	Patch Installation with SDBUPD or* Patch Installation with SDBINST
Source version 7.5.x	Patch Installation with SDBUPD or* Patch Installation with SDBINST
Start Version 7.6.00	Patch Installation with SDBUPD or *Patch Installation with SDBINST

* Use the SDBUPD program if your database instance is part of an SAP system.
In special cases, you can use SDBUPD even if the database instance is not part of an SAP system. See Prerequisites for Using SDBUPD under Upgrading Database Instances and Their Server Software.
