How the MaxDB Adapter Program Works 

To enable you to connect Backint for Oracle to MaxDB, an adapter program is delivered with the MaxDB software. This program meets the Backint for MaxDB specification if it is used with a Backint for Oracle program.

The backup data of the database system is received by one or more pipes and saved in temporary files. You can define the number and size of these files in the parameter file of the MaxDB adapter program.

The MaxDB adapter program calls the backup tool and saves the temporary files by using the Backint for Oracle program. The temporary files are then deleted. This step is repeated until all data has been saved.

To speed up the backup process, you need to configure the adapter program to enable parallel backups. To do this, you define a group of parallel data carriers and a separate staging area for each pipe. In this way, new temporary files are created, and existing temporary files are saved by using Backint for Oracle.

Administrative information is saved in a backup history, which the system in turn backs up via Backint for Oracle after each backup.

The information about the backup history is evaluated by the adapter program.

The adapter program uses the backup history and Backint for Oracle to restore the required temporary files in the correct sequence. The temporary files are transferred by the adapter program to the database system by using one or more pipes.

If an error occurs and the backup history is no longer available, you have to manually restore the last version of the backup history by using Backint for Oracle. Make sure that you are familiar with Backint for Oracle and the handling of your backup tool in case this is necessary.
