Restoring 

Use

To restore a database instance after an error or system failure, you can use the Database Manager GUI to import data and log backups. You can restore the database instance to its last state or to an earlier state.

You can also use the Database Manager GUI to restore indexes and mirrored log volumes.

If the automatic log backup function has been activated before the recovery of the database instance started, this function is not automatically reactivated after the recovery. To reactivate the log backup function, proceed as described under Activating the Automatic Log Backup.

Activities

You can usually use the Recovery Wizard to perform interactive recoveries of data. The Recovery Wizard proposes the optimal recovery strategy for your purposes. You can choose from the following procedures:

●     Restoring from the Last Backup in the Backup History

●     Restoring a Backup from the Backup History

●     Restoring Without a Backup History

●     Continuing an Interrupted Restore

●     Restoring with an Automatic Tape Loader

●     Restoring with Backup Tools from Other Providers

If a restore is not possible using the above procedures (for example, because the database instance was deleted), you have to initialize the database and then restore it. The initialization process makes this a much lengthier procedure. Use it only if absolutely necessary.
