Use

You are installing or updating a component group, installation profile or database software component.

The procedure that follows should only be used for updates if you wish to update components for which the software is not stored in the <dependent_path> of the MaxDB installation or if the software installation you want to update is not used by any database instances.

Caution

If you want to update components for which the software is stored in the <dependent_path> of the MaxDB installation and whose database instances use this software installation, you have to update the database instances together with the software (Updating Database Instances Including Server Software). Otherwise, you risk rendering the database instances incompatible with database software, and you may not be able to start them again.

If you have installed the database software on your computer with the Red Hat Package Manager (installation with rpm package), you must use this program for subsequent installations and updates.
You cannot use the SDBINST program for further installations and updates (installation with tgz package).

For installations on Linux, the following options are available:

The Installation Manager (GUI) program
This program is the easiest way to install the MaxDB software.
See: Using the Installation Manager

The SDBSETUP program for installing the software on the command line
See: Installations/Updates with SDBINST

The Red Hat Package Manager program
See: Installation/Update with the Red Hat Package Manager
