You can back up data as well as log entries on data carriers of the File type. Such files are also known as backup files.
With log backups to a data carrier of the File type, the system backs up each log segment of the log area to a backup file.
The name of the backup files consists of a file name (specified when the backup template was defined) and a sequential number assigned by the database system (for example, logfile.001).
We recommend that you archive these backup files regularly.
